Describe what you do at Forte Marketing?
I work with clients to develop and execute creative campaigns that get their products and services noticed. By getting to know their aims and objectives, I provide advice on how to reach their target audience effectively, to make them stand out from the competition.
Writing is my passion – I can write about pretty much anything. Turning a throwaway comment into a story and seeing it in the local newspaper, on television or hearing it on the radio, is extremely satisfying.
We like to do things differently at Forte Marketing and take pride in ensuring that our campaigns stand out for the right reasons. For us, near enough is not good enough and besides, who wants to look like everyone else?

We all have different ways of working - how would you describe your approach to work?
I think a lot and work through scenarios in my mind before discussing them with the team to gain their input, and to validate them as workable.
Sometimes I have instantaneous lightbulb moments whereas on other occasions, I need to take a step back until I find a solution I am happy with. We never send anything to a client unless we are completely satisfied.
Coming up with solutions to cut through audience segments for our clients, particularly in areas that they have found it a challenge to gain traction, is another passion of mine. There is always a solution, but it is important to be confident that our work is the best it can be.
If there was an award for over-thinking, myself and Darren would share the gold medal! To us, this isn’t a bad thing as it is how we get results – we leave no stone unturned.
I am not afraid to offer an alternative to a client if I feel what they are seeking, isn't in their best interests. We are a results-driven agency and will never compromise or settle for quick financial gain over a long-term, successful relationship.
What did you do before you started at Forte Marketing and what most appealed to you about joining the team?
I have had so many jobs! From babysitting, dog walking and cleaning when I was a teenager, to working in factories to support myself through University. I have provided data entry services to colleges, built hard drives at IBM, packed toiletries for Marks & Spencer and made gas detector cables.
Once I had finished my studies, I worked as a legal assistant, then became a recruitment consultant and eventually achieved my goal of working at the BBC where I became the Business Organiser in their Recruitment Advertising Unit. I lead a team of six and was responsible for the successful rollout of the new advertising style across the country.
Since moving permanently to Australia in 2003, I have worked as the Contracts and Branding Manager for an airline as well as the Communications Manager at a major tourist attraction. Darren and I teamed up in 2017 after work on a project together and the rest, as they say, is history.
What is your greatest source of enjoyment at Forte Marketing?
The people we get to work with – not only our clients, but our suppliers too. I love building relationships as by getting to know people, we can build trust and push them out of their comfort zone, just a tiny bit.
Can you tell us about the most memorable moment of your career? This can be any role, not necessarily at FM.
There are so many, but I have two standouts. The Mount Isa Mining Expo with the Cairns Taipans is one. It was hard work but a lot of fun. The icing on the cake was winning the award for the ‘Best Indoor Display’. Strangely, the award vanished when I left the company I was working for at the time…
I loved working at the BBC and used to see a lot of famous people on a daily basis, especially at the bar or walking to and from the studios (which are huge!). They are so hard to recognise in 'real' life. Usually, they are shorter than you’d expect and dressed in ‘ordinary’ clothing without professional hair and make-up. FYI, I am the same height as Victoria Beckham, and Scary Spice is as loud in person as on television.
If you were a superhero, what would be your superpower?
Teleportation. Having family spread across the globe, I could be there instantly for all the important events and save a stack of money on flights! I could also teleport myself out of awkward situations.
What would you typically be doing and where would we find you when you’re not at work?
I love markets, visiting new places and spending time outdoors whether that’s walking, cycling or picnicking. Picnics are underrated.

I was on House Hunters International once – it still pops up on television every once in a while!
