Apunipima Cape York Health Council
Apunipima Cape York Health Council approached us to redesign and rebuild their website to better reflect who they are and the communities they serve across Cape York.
Their existing site had grown over time and was becoming difficult to manage. Information was scattered, the structure needed improvement, and the design no longer reflected their identity as a strong, community-controlled Indigenous health organisation.
The goal was clear. Create a modern, culturally respectful and easy-to-use website that works well for community members, staff, partners and external stakeholders.

The Challenge
Apunipima supports 17 Cape York communities through primary health care centres, wellbeing centres and outreach services.
The website needed to:
- Make centre information and contact details easy to find
- Clearly explain services and programs
- Reflect Apunipima’s Indigenous identity
and brand - Be accessible and perform well in remote areas
- Meet government accessibility and cybersecurity standards
There was also a need to incorporate cultural design elements, including the “Stronger Together” concept and community symbolism outlined in their brand guidelines
Information Architecture
We began by rethinking the entire sitemap and navigation structure to simplify access to key areas such as Services, Centres, About, News and Events. We developed custom post types and flexible content templates to simplify the management of services, centres, news, events, resources, and governance content, while maintaining a consistent, cohesive front-end experience.

We delivered a modern, culturally aligned and high-performance website designed to support Apunipima’s communities across Cape York, while making content management simple and structured for internal teams. Some of the key outcomes include:
Custom Google Map
(Find a health or wellbeing centre)
We developed a custom Google Map that allows users to easily locate primary health care and wellbeing centres across Cape York. Each location is dynamically managed through the CMS, ensuring contact details, services and opening hours remain consistent and easy to update.
Document repository
We implemented a structured document and reporting repository, enabling users to search and filter annual reports, strategic documents and other resources. This provides a clear and organised way to access important information without cluttering the main content areas.
Standard service templates
We created consistent service templates for clinical, wellbeing and community programs. This ensures clarity for users while allowing staff to publish new services confidently without compromising layout or structure.
Ongoing hosting and maintenance
We provide Australian-based premium hosting, proactive security monitoring, updates, backups and monthly maintenance to ensure the website remains secure, fast and up to date.

The platform was developed in line with accessibility best practices and structured for strong search engine visibility. Clean code, semantic markup and technical optimisation ensure long-term performance and discoverability.
